ADRIAN, Mich. – The NCHA Slaats Cup Finals heads back to the Arrington Ice Arena as the No. 1 seed Adrian College NCAA women's hockey hosts No. 2 St. Norbert College. The Bulldogs sit on a 19-game winning streak entering the Slaats Cup Finals including three playoff wins against Lawrence University (4-1, 4-0) and Lake Forest College (6-1). St. Norbert is on a five-game winning streak with the help of three playoff wins over Trine University (3-2, 3-2 OT), and Aurora University (3-0).
The Bulldogs swept St. Norbert earlier in the year in the two-game regular season series at home. The first game of the series went late into the third with Adrian winning 2-1 on a late power play goal. The Bulldogs came ready to play in game two of the series winning 7-1 which locked up the NCHA Regular Season Championship. Adrian holds the all-time series record against St. Norbert at 29-5-2.
Adrian is led by
Une Bjelland who was just named the NCHA Women's Hockey Player of the Month for February. Bjelland was named the NCHA Player of the Year last week and sits first in Division III in assists (30), third in goals (27), and second in points (57) while also sitting first in career points among active players (183).
In addition to Bjelland,
Jocelin Hudanish and
Tia Lascelle each have 12 goals on the season while
Maya Roy holds 11, and
Karmen Anderson has ten. Roy added 24 assists on the season while Anderson added 23. The Bulldogs continue to have two solid options in goal with
Michaela O'Brien who has a 13-2-0 record with five shutouts, a 0.82 goals against average and a .955 save percentage, and
Annie Gilbert who is 11-0-0 on the year with five shutouts, a 1.04 goals against average, and a .943 save percentage.
St. Norbert is led by All-Conference selections, Courtnie Hogan (15G, 20A) and Morgan Olson (11G, 17A), along with Jo Mahlum (13G, 15A). The Green Knights have relied on Brynn Waisman in goal this season where she's appeared in 22 games totaling a 15-6-1 record with a 1.66 goals against average and a .942 save percentage.
Adrian enters the NCHA Slaats Cup Finals ranked No. 5 in the USCHO.com Poll and No. 5 in the Pairwise Rankings while St. Norbert is receiving votes in the latest USCHO.com Poll and sits at No. 21 in the Pairwise Rankings. Adrian will look to win its ninth Slaats Cup in program history while St. Norbert will look to win their second. The winner of the NCHA Slaats Cup Finals will earn the NCHA Automatic Bid to the NCAA Tournament.
