APPLETON, Wis. – The Adrian College NCAA women's hockey team closed out its road series at Lawrence University with authority on Saturday afternoon, earning an 8–1 victory to complete the weekend sweep.
Emma Simon opened the scoring in the first period to give the Bulldogs a 1–0 lead. Lawrence answered two minutes later, but Riley Johnson took over the frame, scoring back-to-back goals to send Adrian into the first intermission ahead 3–1.
Adrian continued to control play in the second period. Julia Richardson pushed the lead to 4–1, followed by a tally from Kaylee Simon to extend the advantage to 5–1.
The Bulldogs added three more goals in the third. Courtney Ben struck early in the period, and just 12 seconds later Johnson completed her hat trick. Elizabeth Sturgeon capped the scoring late, securing the 8–1 final.
Johnson paced Adrian with a five-point outing, adding two assists to her three goals. Paige Pomerleau also had a strong performance with three assists. Goaltenders Vanessa Ruban and Kiera Stack split time in net, with Ruban recording three saves and Stack stopping six.
The Bulldogs will have a week off before returning to action on the road against MSOE on December 5–6, with puck drop scheduled for 8:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. ET.
