NCHA Slaats Cup Semifinals Preview: Women's Hockey Hosts Lake Forest Saturday Night with a Trip to the Finals on the Line

ADRIAN, Mich. – The Adrian College NCAA women's hockey team is set to host Lake Forest College on Saturday night in the NCHA Slaats Cup Semifinals. The No. 1 Bulldogs are coming off a sweep over No. 8 Lawrence University while No. 4 Lake Forest split with No. 5 Concordia Wisconsin, but won the mini game to advance.

Adrian is 3-0 on the season against Lake Forest defeating the Foresters 5-0 and 2-1 in NCHA conference games, and 11-1 in a non-conference contest. Adrian holds a 31-12-1 record all-time against Lake Forest and are 21-2 at home. Saturday's contest will mark a rematch of last season's NCHA Semifinals where the Bulldogs came away with a 2-0 victory after a pair of third period goals.

The Bulldogs are led by Une Bjelland who was named the NCHA Player of the Year earlier this week. Bjelland leads the team with 25 goals and 30 assists for 55 total points. Jocelin Hudanish has 12 goals on the season while NCHA All-Conference selection Kamen Anderson has 10. Maya Roy and Kathryn Truban also earned All-Conference honors this weekend with Roy totaling 11 goals on the season with 22 assists while Truban has five goals with 19 assists. Michaela O'Brien earned All-Conference honors at goalie with a 0.87 goals against average and a 12-2-0 record with five shutouts. Adrian could also look to Annie Gilbert in goal who is 11-0-0 on the year with five shutouts and a 1.04 goals against average. Head coach, Shawn Skelly, was named Co-Coach of the Year for the NCHA.

The lone Lake Forest NCHA awards went to Chelsea Denniss who was named to the All-Freshman Team and was named the NCHA Freshman of the Year as a goalie. Denniss finished the season with a 9-5-0 record with six shutouts and a 2.02 goals against average. Leading the Foresters in scoring are Abby Meyer, Macy Gehrke, and Zara Post who all have six goals on the year.

A win for the Bulldogs will send Adrian to the NCHA Slaats Cup Finals next weekend where they will take on the winner of No. 2 St. Norbert and No. 3 Aurora. Adrian will also look to grow in the USCHO.com Poll and the Pairwise Rankings to push for a higher seed for the NCAA Tournament as they sit at No. 5 in both.

Adrian and Lake Forest will face off on Saturday, February 24 at the Arrington Ice Arena at 7:00 PM EST. Tickets can be purchased by clicking HERE.
