ADRIAN, Mich. – The Bulldogs bounced back from their first loss of the season with a 2-1 win over Lake Forest Saturday night. Adrian now stands at 18-1-4 overall and 13-0-3 in the NCHA with one weekend of hockey left in the regular season.
Adrian stormed out and dominated the first period with a 14-5 shot advantage as they took the 1-0 lead. The Bulldogs would put a flurry of shots on Lake Forest goal tender Allie Carter, but they did not take the 1-0 edge until 31 seconds remained in the period. Hannah McGowan threw a hard shot off of the pads of Carter and Kristin Lewicki controlled the rebound for her 11th of the season.
Adrian used this late goal as momentum to begin the second as they took the 2-0 lead less the six minutes into the period. Kaylyn Schroka scored from the half boards from Sydney Smith and Courtney Millar. Adrian would fight off a Lake Forest surge, but the Bulldogs could not keep the Foresters scoreless as Emily Wybo cut the Adrian lead in half at the 16:53 mark on the power play.
This would end the scoring for the game as the Bulldogs would not be able to capitalize on the power play and their high-powered unit would finish the night 0-5. The teams would trade shots in the third period as they each tallied eight without finding the back of the net again. Adrian would defuse the Lake Forest attempt to pull Carter for an extra skater as they controlled the puck during the crucial final minutes in route to their 2-1 win. Jade Walsh (18-1-4) recorded the win in goal for Adrian by making 25 saves.
