ADRIAN, Mich. – The Bulldogs began their 2014-15 season Saturday night as they took on the ninth ranked Lake Forest College Foresters. Adrian took the lead late in the first period and used that as momentum to pull away from Lake Forest in the second period. The Bulldogs scored three second period goals to take a 4-0 lead heading into the third period and quickly made the score 5-0 just 11 seconds into the final period. Lake Forest scored a late goal to leave the score at 5-1, but the Bulldogs controlled the game as they now stand at 1-0 overall with a 1-0 mark in the NCHA.
Freshman forward Jessica Killingback started the scoring for the Bulldogs as she scored her first career goal at the 18:33 mark of the first period from Hannah McGowan and Kristi Zink. This allowed Adrian to take the 1-0 lead into the first intermission. The Bulldogs then used this as momentum to come out firing in the second period with 20 shots on goal while allowing just five. Adrian would add to their lead at the 6:20 mark of the period as Kelsey Kusch scored her first of the season from Zink and Kristin Lewicki to advance the score to 2-0. Adrian then added to its lead at the 13:43 mark when Lewicki scored short-handed from McGowan and Sydney Smith to carry the lead to 3-0. The second period scoring was capped by Kaylyn Schroka as she scored on the power play with 2:20 left on the clock from Michelle Jones and Sarah Shureb to help Adrian hold a commanding 4-0 lead heading into the third period.
The final period was highlighted by a goal from Logan Taylor as she would score 11 seconds into the period to push the Bulldog lead to 5-0 on assists from Lewicki and Audrey Noles. Lake Forest would find the back of the net at the 14:23 mark, but Adrian held all the momentum as they maintained their lead to a 5-1 victory. Adrian would outshoot the Foresters 41-24 for the game.
Jade Walsh (1-0) earned the victory in goal for Adrian as she made 23 saves.
The Bulldogs will finish their weekend series with Lake Forest tomorrow (11/2) at 2 p.m. in the Arrington Ice Arena.
