The women's hockey team had a chance to pick up their first win of the season on Friday afternoon at Utica, but saw a 3-1 lead dwindle in the final 25 minutes in a 4-3 loss to the Pioneers.
Jill Doherty was the story in this one as the Utica goaltender made 45 saves. Adrian had the offense clicking but could not get enough pucks past Doherty. The Bulldogs had 12 shots in the first, 16 in the second and 20 in the third.
Utica got the board first at the 7:08 mark of the opening period as Meghan McMahon scored at even strength with an assist from Ann Rancourt. Adrian tied the game 1:59 later as Brooke Zaleski scored her first of the season on the power play with an assist from Kelly Salis.
The highest scoring period was in the second as Adrian scored twice to build a 3-1 lead. Shana Davis scored at even strength with an assist from Zaleski at 8:04 and Prenella Semma scored at 13:27 unassisted.
The Pioneers began their comeback at 15:17 of the second as Andrea Maxon cut the lead to 3-2 with an assist from Shannen Doherty. Lynny Gonzales scored with 37 seconds to go in the second to tie the game at 3-3 unassisted.
The third period was back and forth as Meagan Sudik scored the game-winner at the 11:01 mark at even strength with assists from Tiffany Bichrest and MacKenzie Roy.
Adrian (0-3) went 1-of-4 on the power play and Utica went 0-of-3. Stacey Kempson led Adrian with 12 shots on goal.
