ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Adrian College ACHA MD2 hockey team headed down to rival Trine University Saturday evening falling 5-3. The Bulldogs hosted the Thunder Sunday afternoon that ended in a tie, but ultimately Trine won the shootout.
The Thunder came out firing, striking two times in the opening frame Saturday evening. However, the Bulldogs responded with three back-to-back goals.
Bazl Cook led the way with a pair of goals—his 14th and 15th of the season—both set up by
Gabe Arteaga.
Logan Jent added the other Adrian tally, finishing off a play from
Michael Tucker and
Jackson Hildebrand, all three goals came from the power-play. Adrian entered the first intermission up 3–2, but the momentum shifted in the second period. Trine tied the game late in the frame, leveling things at 3–3 heading into the third. The Thunder capitalized in the final period, taking the lead just 1:28 into the third with a power-play goal. Trine added insurance at 18:38, sealing the 5–3 victory. Goaltender
Lorenzo Culasso turned aside 30 of 35 shots for Adrian.
Sunday afternoon, the Bulldogs struck first at the 14:46 mark when
Matthew Krueger found the back of the net off a fed from
Sam Carper. The Thunder tied the game at 1 before heading into the first intermission with just four minutes left in the period. Adrian broke the tie once again in the second period at 15:45, this time from Cook on the power-play, with the help of
Braeden McNamara and Carper. Trine once again tied the game right back up at the 7:23 mark of the second period. After a scoreless third period, overtime was forced. As nobody was able to find the back of the net in overtime, the game went into a shootout, which ended in Trine winning. As tight as the game was, so were the shots as they were even at 39. Bulldogs goaltender
Alexander Herman was between the pipes, turning away 37 of 39 shots on goal.
The Adrian College MD2 Bulldogs now sit at a 9-6-1 overall record and look to regather as they are back in action for a series hosting Davenport Thursday evening and at Davenport Friday evening.
