SAULT STE. MARIE, Ont. - The Adrian College Women's ACHA Division 2 hockey team headed out Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario to face the four time defending national champions, Sault College, Friday evening and Saturday afternoon. The Bulldogs struggled Friday evening, falling 18-0 but battled Saturday afternoon falling 4-0.
The Cougars controlled the whole game, out shooting the Bulldogs 55-7. Junior goaltender Emily Tracht started the game, facing 28 shots, saving 19 of them. Sophomore goaltender Chalee Ridenour stepped in during the second period, facing 27 shots, making 18 saves.
Sunday afternoon, the Bulldogs came out stronger, but couldn't come out with a goal. Shots were 27-58 in favor of the Cougars. The Cougars scored two goals in the first and second period, however the Bulldogs kept the third period quiet. Tracht made five saves on five shots before taking a hard hit, taking her out of the game for about six minutes. Ridenour stepped in making six saves on six shots before Tracht stepped back in. Tracht went on to make 35 more saves on 39 shots on goal from the Cougars.
The WD2 Bulldogs are now 0-9 overall on their season and will look to regather this week before they face conference opponent Michigan State Saturday and Sunday for a home-and-home series. They will head to Michigan State Saturday afternoon for a 1:00pm puck drop and host Michigan State Sunday afternoon for a 4:00pm puck drop.
