ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Adrian College WD2 hockey team recorded their first win and sweep of the season, hosting University of Illinois. The Bulldogs put on a dominate performance Saturday evening in a 5-0 win and a comeback 5-4 win Sunday afternoon.
Saturday evening, was highlighted by a 30-save shutout from junior goaltender
Emily Tracht and a multi-goal effort from sophomore
Akeeliah Graham. The Bulldogs set the tone early, controlling play and striking three times in the opening frame. A. Graham opened the scoring at 4:36 with assists from sophomore
Gabrielle Paff, followed by junior
Ella Zebley's tally just over three minutes later, assisted by junior Gabrielle Brumme and sophmore
Morgan McKeraghan. Junior
Lulu Weglarz added another late in the period, with A. Graham and junior
Mia Nadeau collecting helpers to give Adrian a 3–0 lead after one. After a scoreless second period, Adrian sealed the victory in the third. A. Graham notched her second of the game at 5:04, assisted by Paff and senior
Hannah Berenson, before Brumme capped off the scoring at 11:01 with assists from senior
Devon Cavaliere and Weglarz. The Bulldogs outshot the Illini 43–30.Â
The Bulldogs had a slow start Sunday afternoon allowing Illinois to go up 3-0, however Paff responded to close out the first period with the help from A. Graham. Junior
Aubrey Morrison recorded her first goal of the season to minimize the Illini lead to one, with Cavaliere and Paff adding helpers. The Illini added another goal to the scoreboard to give them the 4-2 lead heading into the third period. The Bulldogs came out hard in the third period, with Zebley just 1:56 minutes into the period with help from Nadeau and Brumme. Freshmen Jax Graham tied the game up on the powerplay at 6:13, with Weglarz and Berenson adding helpers. With time counting down Paff netted her second goal of the game with Cavaliere adding another assist with just a little over two minutes left in the game for the Bulldogs to compete the comeback. Chalee Ridenour was between the pipes recording her first career win along with 18 saves on 22 shots.Â
The WD2 Bulldogs will be back in action Thursday, November 20th as they host Maryville for a 10:00 PM puck drop.Â
