ALBION, Mich. - At Kresge Gymnasium, a lopsided third quarter allowed the homestanding Britons to pull away from the Adrian women's basketball team en route to a 71-54 result.
Albion led 39-29 after the first half before outscoring the Bulldogs 24-11 over the first ten minutes of the second half. That 13-point advantage fended off any hopes of an Adrian comeback, despite the black and gold edging their opposition 14-8 in the final frame.
Chloe Gilbert and
Makayla Clement each totaled double-figures in scoring for the visitors with 13 and 10 points, respectively. The latter of the two added a team-high three assists, while Gilbert and
Jordan Phillips both led the team with five rebounds.
The 'Dogs trailed by as many as nine points in the game's opening quarter, but muscled their way back into contention, utilizing a
Rylee Campbell three-pointer in the final minute to draw within two points. The Brits got the last laugh, however, extending their lead up to 21-17 entering the second quarter.
A 10-0 stretch by the hosts to open the second quickly put Adrian in a hole that it ultimately could not recover from.
Three different Bulldogs contributed six points each, including
Kourtney Crawford, Oliva Green and Campbell.
The black and gold are slated to host Calvin next on January 26. Tip-off is slated for 7:30 p.m. at the Merillat Sport and Fitness Center.
