Women's Hoops to Cap Five-Game Road Swing at Albion

ADRIAN, Mich. - This weekend, after a minor delay, the Adrian women's basketball team will resume its season at Albion College.

Originally scheduled to host Alma earlier this week, the Bulldogs (5-10, 2-5 MIAA) will, instead tack on a fifth-straight road contest against a Britons' team whom they have faced once already this season.

Back on December 18 in Adrian, the 'Dogs and the Brits played neck-and-neck through most of the opening half. However, a momentum switch late in the frame allowed the visitors to pull away for an 89-58 victory.

Since that meeting, Albion (13-4, 6-2 MIAA) has lost three of its last seven, including back-to-back defeats at the hands of nationally-ranked Trine and Hope.

Lolo Reed and Elena Welker lead the Britons in scoring through 17 games this season, averaging 11.4 and 10.7 points per game, respectively. The latter of the two posted a game-high 25 points against the Bulldogs back in December, knocking down 3-of-4 from behind the three-point arc while also converting on all four of her free throw attempts.

Sophomore Dareonna Little, whose 0.553 field-goal percentage ranks fifth in the conference, actively leads Albion on the glass with a 6.9 rebounding average.

As for the black and gold, Chelsea Palmer, Chloe Gilbert and Makayla Clement each rallied off double-figures in scoring in the season's first meeting with the Brits.

Palmer currently sits at third and fourth, respectively, in the MIAA with a 13.5 scoring average and a 7.8 rebounding mark. The senior has six double-double efforts on the season, including three in her last four appearances.

Clement sits behind Palmer on Adrian's scoring list, turning in 7.4 points an outing to go along with 24 assists, 66 rebounds, and a team-leading 22 steals.

On paper, Albion and Adrian are ranked third and sixth, in that order, in team field-goal percentage, while the locals hold a near-three percent edge from the charity stripe.

Saturday's contest at Kresge Gymnasium will follow the men's edition of the doubleheader at 5:30 p.m.

Live stats and video will be available.
