Box Score ALBION, Mich. – Turnovers and missed free throws hampered the Adrian College women's basketball team in their MIAA matchup with Albion College on Saturday as the Bulldogs fell 66-43. Adrian is now 1-6 on the season and 0-3 in the conference.
The Bulldogs scored the first points of the game on a jumper by sophomore Rachael Walker (Warrensville Hts., Ohio/John F. Kennedy) but it was Albion who would lead the rest of the way, including a 30-20 lead at halftime. Junior Kellee Wonders (Pittsford, Mich./Hudson), Adrian's leading scorer, got in foul trouble early and was held scoreless in the first half.
The Britons started the second half on a 10-3 run, taking their lead to 17 at one point. The Bulldogs were able to cut the lead to 11 before Albion would again go on a run to close out the second half and the game. The Bulldogs shot 60 percent from the free throw line, while Albion went for 90 percent. The Bulldogs committed 26 turnovers compared to Albion's 12
For the Bulldogs, sophomore Kayla Galecka (Ovid, Mich./Ovid-Elsie) led the way with 10 points and a game-high four assists, including two three-pointers. Wonders had a game-high six rebounds to go along with five points. Walker was second on the team with seven points, all coming in the first half. Junior Katie Ross (Clawson, Mich./Clawson) and the freshman tandem of Jayma Nihart (Edgerton, Ohio/Edgerton) and Stephany Bohlmann (Webberville, Mich./Dansville) each had four points respectively.
The Bulldogs will look to rebound in a non-conference matchup on Wednesday, December 15 as Ohio Northern travels to Adrian for a 7:30 p.m. game.
