WESTERVILLE, Ohio -- The Adrian College men's lacrosse team used a big second-half surge to defeat Otterbein University, 14–9, on Friday afternoon at Memorial Stadium.
Braeden McNamara led the Bulldogs with a game-high six goals, fueling Adrian's offense as the team used a strong second-half push to secure the win.
Otterbein opened the scoring and built an early advantage with three goals in the opening frame. Adrian responded late in the quarter with a pair of tallies, including one from McNamara and
Alec Winegar, to keep the Bulldogs within reach heading into the second quarter. The Bulldogs continued to battle in the second quarter as the teams traded goals throughout the frame. Adrian received key contributions from Winegar with a goal, while McNamara added two more goals to his total. The Bulldogs headed into the second half with a one goal lead, 5-4.
Adrian seized momentum coming out of the break. The Bulldogs erupted offensively, with McNamara leading the charge by adding multiple goals during the period. Adrian's defense tightened as well, limiting Otterbein opportunities with the Bulldogs heading into the final quarter with the lead. The Bulldogs sealed the victory in the final period with continued offensive pressure. McNamara capped off his standout performance with additional scoring, while
Bradyn Parrott and
Trace Tidswell also contributed key goals to maintain Adrian's advantage down the stretch.
Alec Winegar capped off a hat-trick nearing the end of the fourth quarter, while
Austin Selvage and
David Harrison also added single tallies for themselves.
In goal,
Josiah Karnehm anchored the Bulldogs defensively with 21 key saves off of 30 shots on goal from the Cardnals that helped maintain Adrian's lead during critical stretches of the second half.
With the win, Adrian builds momentum as the Bulldogs now improve to a 2-5 record as they head into their next game March 14 as they host Oberlin at Docking Stadium.
