Men's Volleyball Split Home Tri-Match, Sweep Franklin After Falling to UW–Stevens Point

ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Adrian College men's volleyball team split a Saturday home tri-match inside the Merillat Center, falling to Wisconsin–Stevens Point in the opener before bouncing back with a straight-set victory over Franklin.

The Bulldogs opened the day against Wisconsin–Stevens Point, dropping a three-set decision despite a team-high performance from Sam Landers.

Landers paced Adrian with 12 kills, while David Cauley added four kills and Carson Bell chipped in three along with a pair of block assists. Andrew Graczyk directed the offense with 13 assists and added five digs defensively.

The Pointers established control early, hitting .286 in the opening set while limiting Adrian to a negative hitting percentage to take a quick 1-0 lead. Wisconsin–Stevens Point continued its offensive efficiency in the second frame, using a balanced attack to build separation and take the set 25-17.

Adrian showed improvement in the third set, recording 10 kills, but the Pointers held off the push to secure the sweep. Wisconsin–Stevens Point finished the match hitting .253 with 30 kills.

Adrian totaled 29 kills in the contest, with Cauley contributing four digs and Bell adding a team-best three total blocks.

Adrian 3, Franklin 0 (25-14, 25-23, 25-18)
The Bulldogs responded in the afternoon match, defeating Franklin in straight sets behind a balanced offensive effort and a strong hitting performance.

Landers once again led the attack with 10 kills while adding three service aces and five digs. William Morris was efficient in the middle with seven kills on 11 swings for a .545 hitting percentage, and Carson Bell matched the total with seven kills and three blocks.

Andrew Graczyk orchestrated the offense with 29 assists and three service aces as Adrian hit .298 as a team with 38 kills in the victory.

The Bulldogs controlled the opening set with 14 kills and a .357 hitting percentage to take a commanding 25-14 win. Franklin pushed Adrian in the second set, forcing 13 ties and seven lead changes, but the Bulldogs closed the frame late to take a 2-0 advantage.

Adrian sealed the match in the third set behind another efficient offensive showing, hitting .407 in the frame to complete the sweep.

Dominic Rees added six kills with two solo blocks, while Cauley contributed four kills and a service ace. Defensively, the Bulldogs recorded 32 digs in the match.

The Bulldogs now sit at a 8-10 overall record and look to build back into conference play Friday as they host Wittenberg at 7:00 PM.
