ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Adrian College men's volleyball team battled through a tightly contested match to defeat Greenville in five sets (23-25, 25-17, 22-25, 25-19, 15-13) on Tuesday evening at the Merillat Center.
After dropping the opening set 25-23, Adrian responded with a strong second frame. The Bulldogs hit .300 in the set while holding Greenville to .139 to even the match at one set apiece with a 25-17 victory.
Greenville regained the advantage in the third set, edging Adrian 25-22, but the Bulldogs answered again in the fourth. Adrian produced one of its most efficient offensive sets of the night, hitting .316 while committing just one error to claim a 25-19 win and force a decisive fifth set.
The Bulldogs carried that momentum into the final frame. Adrian hit .400 in the set and held off a late Greenville push to secure the 15-13 victory and the 3-2 match win.
Sam Landers led the Adrian offense with 23 kills and added 14 digs for a double-double. Dominic Rees was highly efficient with 17 kills on a .400 hitting percentage, while Carson Bell contributed 11 kills and a strong presence at the net with seven total blocks.
Andrew Graczyk directed the offense with 45 assists and added three service aces. Defensively, Rolen Maclin paced the Bulldogs with 17 digs.
As a team, Adrian recorded 66 kills and hit .236 while finishing with 16 total blocks in the win.
Adrian improves to 7-9 overall and 1-3 in MCVL play and look to keep their hot streak alive as they host Wisconsin-Stevens Point and Franklin on Saturday for a Tri-Match. Game one against Wisconsin-Stevens Point set to start at 11:00 AM and match two against Franklin is set to start at 3:00 PM.Â
