WOOSTER, Ohio -- The Adrian College men's lacrosse team dropped a 23-8 decision to College of Wooster on Saturday afternoon at John P. Papp Stadium.
Adrian struck first just 1:28 into the contest as Austin Selvage found the back of the net to give the Bulldogs an early 1-0 lead. Wooster responded quickly, however, scoring five unanswered goals to close out the opening quarter and take a 5-1 advantage after 15 minutes.
The Fighting Scots continued to control possession in the second, outscoring Adrian 6-3 in the frame. Alec Winegar converted on the man-up opportunity early in the quarter, while Selvage added his second goal of the afternoon and David Harrison scored late to make it 11-4 at halftime.
Wooster carried its momentum into the third period, posting a seven-goal quarter to extend the lead. Mark Veldhof tallied midway through the frame off an assist from Selvage, but the Bulldogs trailed 18-5 heading into the final stanza.
In the fourth, Selvage netted a man-up goal and later added his fourth of the game in the closing minutes. Braeden McNamara also scored on the extra-man opportunity, finishing a feed from Selvage.
Selvage led Adrian with four goals and two assists for six points. Veldhof, Winegar, McNamara, and Harrison each added a goal.Â
Defensively, Josiah Karnehm made 16 saves in 45 minutes of action before Owen Smith played the final 15 minutes in goal. Adrian was outshot 70-30 and collected 30 ground balls in the contest.
The Bulldogs are now sitting at 0-3 overall and look to bounce back Tuesday at Ohio Weslelyan at 5:00 PM.Â
