2019 Baseball Alum Dugan Darnell Promoted to MLB

DENVER, Colo. — The Colorado Rockies announced the promotion of right-handed pitcher Dugan Darnell to the Major League roster on Friday. Darnell, a 2019 graduate of Adrian College, played both third base and pitched during his collegiate career with the Adrian College Bulldogs. He signed a minor league contract with the Rockies after spending a season in the United Shore Professional Baseball League (USPBL).

Darnell joins the Rockies from Triple-A Albuquerque, where he posted a 5–2 record with a 3.52 ERA over 53.2 innings pitched during the 2025 season. He has tallied 63 strikeouts and 19 walks in that span. Over five seasons in the Rockies' minor league system, Darnell owns a 21–8 record with a 3.74 ERA across 255.1 innings, while striking out 332 batters.

He has been particularly effective of late, allowing just two earned runs in nine July appearances while posting a 1.32 ERA and recording 13 strikeouts.

As a senior at Adrian College, Darnell dominated on the mound, compiling an 0.53 ERA over 17.0 innings in 16 appearances. He registered six saves, 27 strikeouts, and held opponents to a minuscule .056 batting average.

Darnell is expected to make his Major League debut this weekend when the Rockies host the Pittsburgh Pirates for a three-game series, followed by a three-game set against the Toronto Blue Jays. He becomes the fourth player in Adrian College baseball history to reach the Major Leagues, joining Rube Kisinger (1901–1916), Clint Rogge (1909–1923), and Ryan Dorrow (2021).
