MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – The Adrian College NCBA Division I baseball team hit the road over the weekend for a three-game series against Central Michigan University. The Bulldogs took one of three from the Chippewas, winning game two 9-6 while falling 5-3 in the opener and 8-3 in the finale.
Central Michigan jumped out to a 4-0 lead in game one after scoring three in the first and another in the fourth. Adrian battled back with three runs in the top of the sixth but gave up one more in the bottom half to fall 5-3. Tyler Hall led the Bulldogs with two hits, while Carson Boike, Damon Harriss, and Brock Hudik each drove in a run. Michael Hale started on the mound, throwing four innings and allowing three earned runs on five hits with five strikeouts.
Adrian bounced back in Sunday's opener with a 9-6 win, fueled by a five-run third inning to take a 5-2 lead. The Bulldogs added two more in the fourth and another in the fifth before Central Michigan cut the deficit to 8-5 with a three-run fifth. Adrian added an insurance run in the seventh and held on for the victory. Boike finished with three hits and two RBIs, while Matthew Clayton led the team with three RBIs. Connor Reneau earned the win, pitching four innings and allowing four runs on two hits while striking out six.
In the series finale, Adrian jumped ahead 3-0 entering the bottom of the fourth, but Central Michigan surged late with one run in the fourth, three in the fifth, and two each in the sixth and eighth to take the 8-3 win. The Bulldogs managed just two hits—one from Hudik and one from Isaac Jurmu. Starter Colton Hicks tossed 5.1 innings, allowing four runs on six hits with one strikeout.
The Bulldogs move to 7-5 on the fall season and will return home to host Indiana University. The series originally scheduled for November 1-2 has been postponed with a makeup date to be determined.
