ADRIAN, Mich. – The Adrian College baseball team opened its three-game conference series with Kalamazoo College on Saturday afternoon with a home doubleheader. The battle for the top of the MIAA started with a 12-2 victory in game one before a 10-4 loss in game two.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
GAME 1
- Kalamazoo scored in the top of the first to lead 1-0, but AJ Miranda answered back for the Bulldogs with an RBI ground out in the bottom of the inning.
- Kalamazoo scored in the top of the second to lead 2-1, but Adrian answered back with three in the bottom of the third. Miranda singled in a run followed by RBI singles from Ryan Davis and Easton Rogers.
- Davis singled in another run for the Bulldogs in the fifth followed by a pinch-hit RBI single from Edward Wager.
- In the sixth inning, Nic Bruder singled in a run for Adrian while Davis drove in a run on a sacrifice fly to lead 8-2. Jakob Charles added an RBI single in the seventh to lead 9-2.
- Adrian loaded the bases in the eighth scoring on a hit by pitch to Gus Weaks, and walk to Joe Casale, and a sacrifice fly to Charles to win 12-2.
- Casale finished game one 5-for-5 with three runs scored. Bruder added three hits for Adrian while Davis, Kedrow, and Rogers each had two.
- Charles picked up his fifth win of the season on the mound throwing five innings allowing two runs on three hits. Luc St. Antoine earned his fourth save of the year throwing three shutout innings in relief.
GAME 2
- Bruder grounded out to second, bringing Casale in from third to open the scoring in the first.
- Rogers double to right center to drive Davis home to make it 2-0 after two innings.
- Kalamazoo scored twice in the third inning before Edward Wagner brought home Charles for a run off a sac fly.
- Kalamazoo would add seven more runs, all within the next two innings to pull ahead.
- Adrian then added another run in the bottom of the fifth, thanks to a Davis double to center, scoring Wagner. The final score would sit still after that.
- Daniel Gutierrez tossed four innings giving up seven hits and six earned runs to take the loss for Adrian. He finished with five strikeouts.
The Bulldogs and Hornets will wrap up their series tomorrow at the Nic at 1:00 PM. The Hornets will be the home team in tomorrow's game to make up for a schedule change earlier in the week.
