ADRIAN, Mich. – The Adrian College women's lacrosse team lost to Calvin University 15-5 Friday afternoon. Freshman Melaina Springer tied a game-high four goals Friday to lead the Bulldogs.
How It Happened
Calvin University would open the first quarter with a 5-0 advantage Friday and tacked on their sixth and seventh goals of the contest in the opening minutes of the second quarter. At the 13:47 mark, Calvin would lead 7-0 over the Bulldogs. Later in the quarter, senior Joscelyn Potter scored her seventh goal of the season at the 11:11 mark to halt Calvin's run. However, in the final 11 minutes of the half, Calvin would respond with a 4-0 run to take an 11-1 lead into the second half.
After Calvin opened the second half with a goal, at the 13:01 mark in the third quarter, Springer scored, to conclude her season with a 10-game goal-scoring streak. During the quarter, Springer would score a total of four goals to pull the Bulldogs within seven at 12-5 in favor of the Knights. Despite Springer's run, Adrian College conceded three more goals over the remainder of the game.
Historical Notes
Springer concluded her freshman campaign with 48 goals on the season, which is currently tied for the 99th best in NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse. With her 48 goals on the year, Springer is the first freshman since Gwyneth Brodbeck (28 goals) in 2018 to lead the team in goals during a season.
