ADRIAN, Mich. – The Adrian College Men's volleyball team swept Mount St. Joseph three sets to none Saturday afternoon enroute to winning their first conference victory of the season.
Chase Heuer led all players with a match high 19 kills Saturday.
How It Happened
The men's volleyball team began play Saturday with a back and forth first set against Mount St. Joseph. During the set, the Bulldogs would trail by as much as two and lead by as many as four points. After trailing early in the set at 7-5, Adrian College stormed back on an extended 14-10 advantage to put themselves up by four with the score at 19-15. During play, the Bulldogs used a balanced attack with five individual players recording kills. Adrian College would conclude the set with the combination of two Mount St. Joseph service errors and kills by Heuer and
Beck Fieldhouse to take a 1-0 lead over the Lions.
During the second set, the Bulldogs opened a 5-1 lead for themselves after incredible diving saves and defensive stops, as they would set the tone for the remainder of the match. Despite finding themselves tied at 12 all in the middle of the set, the Bulldogs continued their tenacity, which allowed them to gain a five-point lead at 17-12. Andrew Gawrisch,
Samuel Williams, and Heuer recorded a combined four straight kills. Despite the comeback threat that Mount St. Joseph provided after shrinking the Bulldog lead to 26-25, Heuer would end the set with back-to-back kills of his own, extending the Bulldog lead to two sets to none over Mount St. Joseph.
The Bulldogs would conclude the sweep in the third set with a 25-20 advantage over Mount St. Joseph. After the third set was tied at seven all, the men's volleyball team took control of the match, scoring seven straight against the Lions. During the run, the men's volleyball team capitalized on errors by the Lions as well as kills by Heuer and Gawrisch. After the run was complete the Bulldogs cruised to the finish line with the three-set sweep. With the help of a variety of offensive and defensive errors by the Lions Heuer, and Fieldhouse would conclude the match with kills to secure the Bulldogs' first conference win of the season.

Heuer led the Bulldogs after recording a game high 22 kills as well as a game high 19 kills Saturday.
Historical Notes
The men's volleyball team clinched their first season with a record of .500 or better for the second time in program history as a member of the NCAA. The last time the Bulldogs would end a season with a record of .500 or better was during the 2019 season where the men's volleyball team would conclude their campaign with a 16-14 record.
