OBERLIN, Ohio – The Adrian College women's basketball team traveled to Oberlin College on Wednesday night for a non-conference matchup. The Bulldogs would try and complete a comeback, but would fall short and lose, 58-63.
Adrian would have a rough start to the game by getting outscored 17-9 in the first quarter. The Bulldogs would shoot 30% from the floor and record five turnovers. They would have a back and forth second quarter and lose the quarter by a one-point margin, 12-11. The Bulldogs would be down 29-20 at the halftime break. Adrian shot 8-23 from the field and would go 0-4 from the three-point line through the first 20 minutes of play.
To start the second half the Bulldogs would score a layup right out the gate by
Aubrie Ickes. After the layup, the Yeomen would go on a 7-1 run and increase their lead by 13 points. Adrian would put up a fight and get the score to a five-point game with about 20 seconds left, but would give up a three-point shot at the buzzer to be down eight points at the end of the third quarter.
In the fourth quarter the Yeomen would look as if they had control of the game being up 11 points with four minutes to go. The Bulldogs would go on an 8-0 run to only be down three with just under forty seconds of play. Desperation fouls in the final minute gave Oberlin two foul shots to seal the win. Adrian would shoot 40.4% from the field and go 2-15 from beyond the arc throughout the forty minutes of play.
To lead the Bulldogs was Ickes with 13 points followed by
Kiaya Warner with 10.
Ashlyn Weatherly led the team with six rebounds while Warner and Ickes led with three assists each.
Adrian will travel to The University of Olivet for a MIAA conference contest on Saturday, December 16 at 1:00 PM.
