ADRIAN, Mich. - At the Merillat Sport and Fitness Center, the Adrian College Acrobatics and Tumbling team turned in its highest meet score in six years, defeating third-seeded Trine University to advance to Sunday's Division III Invitational Final against Concordia University-Wisconsin.
In addition to posting a final score of 244.625, the best in program-history since February 29, 2016, the Bulldogs also set new season-high scores in four different events, and will compete in 14 of the 15 event finals, which are set for Sunday morning at 10 a.m.
Saturday's semifinal match-up with the Thunder got off to an impressive start for the tournament hosts, as they cracked the nine-point threshold in three of the four Compulsory heats to finish with a season-best mark of 35.50.
Then, in the Acro event, the 'Dogs bested their previous high score by 0.60 to extend their lead on Trine to almost six points.
The Thunder made things interesting in the Pyramid heat, but Adrian held on for a narrow 27.40-27.15 victory.
From there, the black and gold did just enough to fend off a light comeback by their opposition, including another pair of season-high scores set in the Tumbling (46.275) and Toss (24.90) events, setting up a third meeting of the season between the locals and Concordia Wisconsin.
That Finals match-up is scheduled to go down at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday afternoon, following the consolation meet between Trine and Stevenson University, who was defeated by the Falcons in Saturday's first semifinal meet.
