ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Adrian College baseball team continues to hold onto votes in the d3baseball.com Top-25 poll as they picked up 11 votes this past week. The Bulldogs faced a strange week last week due to weather defeating Trine on Tuesday and losing to Case Western Reserve on Sunday. Adrian was supposed to have a three game series against Hope which was halted in game one followed by a postponed doubleheader on the road. This week, Adrian will face Trine on Wednesday followed by Albion in a three game series this weekend.
The Bulldogs are coming off a 7-1 nonconference loss where the team strung together only four hits. The Bulldogs are looking to move to 4-1 on the season in MIAA play and move its overall record to 12-9.
On the offense for the Bulldogs,
Thomas Miller continues to lead the team with a .409 batting average to go with 27 hits, 22 runs scores, four doubles, five triples, and a pair of home runs. Miller has also driven in 17 runs this season and has walked a team-high 14 times.
Don Goodes sits towards the top of the team in batting average at .354 followed by
AJ Miranda at .338, and
Dylan Johnson at .300. Goodes as the leadoff hitter for the Bulldogs has been dangerous on the base paths stealing 13 bags this season in 16 attempts.
On the mound,
Michael Swanson leads the starters with a 2.45 ERA on the season in 22 innings pitched with the team's only complete game and shutout. He has allowed just six earned runs this season with 17 strikeouts and an opponent batting average of just .123.
Maxwell Denny has started in six games this season for Adrian with an ERA of 4.03 in 29 innings pitched and opponents hitting .202 off of him. He leads the team with a total of 26 strikeouts on the mounds.
Coming out of the bullpen has been
Jacob Hanoian and
Luc St. Antoine. Hanoian has held an ERA of 0.71 this season with three saves in 12.2 innings pitched. The closer has managed to strikeout six while only allowing a batting average against of .143. St. Antoine has allowed just one hit in his last seven innings pitched this season and holds an ERA of 3.55.
Trine comes into the week supporting a record of 9-13 and sit 4-3 in conference play. Last week, the Bulldogs took care of business against the Thunder coming away with a 9-5 victory. Albion enters the week with a 10-12 record on the year and sit 5-2 in conference play with a pair of wins over Kalamazoo and Alma while also taking down Olivet.
Adrian will host Trine on Wednesday, April 13 at 4:00 PM and will travel to Albion on Friday for a 4:00 PM contest. The Bulldogs will then play host to Albion in a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 1:00 PM.
