ADRIAN, Mich. – The Adrian College Women's Basketball team had their first MIAA matchup of the season against the Thunder of Trine University. The lady dogs started off strong in the start of both halves, but could just not match the shooting and rebounding by the Thunder offense as they fell 66-54.
1st half:
The Adrian Bulldogs came out hot starting 4-0 with senior
Kourtney Crawford scoring all four points to open up the contest off a few trips to the free throw line. The Thunder led for a couple minutes straight until they got the scoring going finding open lanes and passes down low, converting off the glass to take the lead 18-15 to end the first quarter. The second quarter was the difference maker as Trine knocked down a couple three-point shots and kept finding passes inside. They would go up by 13 points going into halftime up 35-22 outscoring the Bulldogs 17-7 in the second quarter.
2nd half:
The Bulldogs once again came out shooting well as junior
Kiaya Warner knocked down a step back three-point shot, to give the Bulldogs a little momentum starting the third quarter. Adrian would once again be tested defensively as Trine hit crucial shots including multiple three-point baskets. Adrian kept things even with the Thunder in the third quarter at 16-16 and would ultimately win the battle in the fourth quarter outscoring the Thunder 16-15.
Key contributors to tonight's game were Warner scoring 11 points off of 5-of-7 from the field, freshman
Ashlyn Weatherly had a fantastic game contributing 11 points and shooting 5-of-8 down low recording six rebounds.
Julia Tierman,
Kiara Wernette, and
Makayla Clement also contributed tonight to help the Bulldogs to score 54 points on the night.
The Bulldogs fall to 3-3 on the season and 0-1 in the conference and are set to travel down to South Bend, Indiana to battle with the Belles of Saint Mary's College in their next game which is set to take place on Saturday December 3 at 3:00 PM.
