NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. - At Stauffer-Wolfe Arena, the Adrian women's basketball team fell cold in the second half, allowing the homestanding Spartans to pull away for a 72-53 win.
Chelsea Palmer recorded her tenth-career double-double, and second of the season to lead the Bulldogs, tallying 11 points and 10 rebounds. The senior picked up all of her points in the first half, however, as Manchester did a better job in the second half limiting her chances.
The two x-factors of the afternoon came from the third quarter and the host's clutch effort at the free throw line.
The home side's defense did not allow a single field goal from the visitors from inside the three-point arc, and while the 'Dogs did knock down 3-of-5 from three-point territory in the third frame, the Spartans still forced seven turnovers en route to a 22-11 third quarter advantage.
At the charity stripe, Manchester converted on 19-of-25 attempts, accounting for the game's final margin of victory.
Aside from the Spartans wide-edge from the line, the Bulldogs outmuscled their opposition 46-37 on the glass, and mustered up six total blocks.
Makayla Clement and
Olivia Green contributed eight points each for Adrian, combining to shoot 7-for-11 from the floor. Green, who came off the bench in the fourth quarter, also corralled six rebounds.
The women's basketball team (2-3) will not be going far for the next stop on its season-opening road trip. Adrian will visit Siena Heights on November 23. Tip-off is slated for 6 p.m.
