ADRIAN, Mich. - On Wednesday evening, the Adrian women's volleyball team gave No. 4 Calvin all it could give, but the Knights showed why they had earned their ranking, defeating the Bulldogs in straight-sets.
The hosts managed to keep things close offensively, narrowly being outkilled 37-30. However, when the visitors struck, they attacked with authority, finishing with a 0.421 hit-percentage in the second set before closing with a 0.333 mark in the third frame.
Senior,
Julia Bell and sophomore
Mallory Dorow paced the black and gold with eight kills each, while
Blaire Weiman added four. Hailey Farell produced a game-best 24 assists for the 'Dogs.
Defensively,
Mya Minjares turned in a solid 11 dig performance for the home side.
Adrian erupted out of the gate, driving the energy in the Merillat Sport and Fitness Center through the roof. A 4-0 run after falling behind 7-6 had the Bulldogs ahead 10-7, forcing a Knights' timeout early on.
Out of the timeout, Calvin responded with an 8-1 stretch and eventually utilized a 6-0 sprint later on to pull away and take the game's opening set 25-18.
The Knights carried that momentum into a convincing second-set victory, and despite a hard-fought effort by the Bulldogs in the third set, the visitors found a way to seal the deal.
Adrian is set to close out the regular-season this Friday evening at Alma. From there, the MIAA postseason field will be finalized to start on November 2.
