DE PERE, Wis. – The Adrian College women's hockey team travelled to take on the St. Norbert's College Green Knights Friday night in their first matchup of a weekend series. The teams played to a gridlock as they tied 1-1 in overtime. This decision leaves the Bulldogs overall record at 4-0-1 with a 4-0-1 mark in the NCHA.
The Bulldogs started the scoring in the first period as Devyn Fitzhenry scored from Kaylyn Schroka and Sarah Shureb at the 17:08 mark. The teams traded first period shots as the Bulldogs fired 11 while the Green Knights tallied 12 and Adrian carried the 1-0 lead into the first intermission.
St. Norbert then turned up their offense in the second period as they tied the score at the 5:33 mark. The Bulldogs fought off the Green Knights as Jade Walsh made 16 saves for the period and the game headed into the final 20 minutes tied, 1-1.
The stalemate continued throughout the remaining period as neither team was able to find the back of the net. The Bulldogs outshot the Green Knights 9-7 for the period but they could not score the game-winner.
The game was forced into overtime where each team recorded a shot on goal but a victor could not be decided as the contest ended in a 1-1 tie.
Walsh (4-0-1) made the start in goal for Adrian and recorded 36 saves.
These two teams will meet again tomorrow (11/22) at 3 p.m. ET.
