Four goal third period sends Bulldogs past St. Norbert

ADRIAN, Mich. – The Bulldogs faced conference foe St. Norbert in a matchup of the preseason top two of the NCHA. The teams came into the game with the Bulldogs having won four straight and the Green Knights having dropped their last two games. Theteams battled through two periods as the St. Norbert carried a 3-2 lead into the third period. The Bulldogs responded with a four goal third period to win the game 6-3 to advance to 6-1 on the season and 4-1 in the NCHA.

The first period went scoreless but the Bulldogs fired 13 shots on goal to just four from the Green Knights.

The second period started out with the Bulldogs taking a quick 1-0 lead just over one minute into the period on a goal from Kristin Lewicki from Lauren Turner and Hannah McGowan. This lead carried for the next seven minutes until St. Norbert evened the score at the 11:03 mark of the period. The Bulldogs charged back as Kelsey Kusch put one in the net at 12:17 to take the lead 2-1 from Alix Vallee and Devyn Fitzhenry. This lead only lasted until the 14:10 mark as St. Norbert scored two goals in the last 5:50 of the period to carry a 3-2 lead to the second intermission.

The third period saw an offensive surge from the Bulldogs as Adrian scored four goals to take command of the game and take the win 6-3. The first goal was scored just 1:14 into the period as Kusch scored her second of the game from Lewicki. This was followed closely by a Devyn Fitzhenry goal at the 17:13 mark on assists from Danielle Smith and Kusch. Fitzhenry then scored her second at the 13:05 mark on a power play opportunity to put the Bulldogs up 5-3 just seven minutes into the period. This allowed Adrian to control the rest of the game as the Bulldogs held this two goal lead for the next 10 minutes of gameplay until Hannah McGowan iced the game with just over three minutes left from Lewicki. This was all the Bulldogs needed as they advanced to 4-1 in the NCHA.

Jade Walsh earned the win by stopping 21 shots and helping kill all seven power play opportunities from St. Norbert.

These two teams will face off again tomorrow at 2 p.m. at the Arrington Ice Arena to conclude their weekend series.
