Box Score DEPERE, Wis. – The women's hockey team (10-3, 7-3) had their eight-game winning streak halted by St. Norbert (4-4-2, 3-4-1) with nine seconds left in overtime, 3-2, Saturday afternoon at the Resch Olympic Pavilion in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association action.
After the Bulldogs had scored a final minute goal the previous night, St. Norbert was able to tie today's rematch in the final minute before getting their first lead of the game in overtime after the Bulldogs went up 1-0, and 2-1.
After scoring both Adrian goals in a 2-1 Bulldogs win the night before, NCHA Player of the Week Kelsey Kusch scored again to stake Adrian to a 1-0 lead after both teams again went scoreless in the first period. Devyn Fitzhenry and Danielle Smith would both earn assists on Kusch's team-leading 11th goal of the season.
Less than four minutes later, the Green Knights would tie the game. The Bulldogs would get a power-play goal midway through the third period, when Alix Vallee would put Adrian up, 2-1, with an assist from Kusch. It was Vallee's fifth goal of the season as she continues to lead the NCHA in defensive scoring.
After Adrian was assessed a penalty late in the third, St. Norbert called a time-out with a minute and a half left in regulation play. It paid off as the Green Knights scored with just 27 seconds left to get the equalizer on the power play. St. Norbert kept the momentum and with only nine ticks left on the clock in overtime, got the game-winner from Karissa Anderson.
Brittany Zeches, who leads the NCHA in shots, turned aside 43 shots on the afternoon. The team will take a break before continuing on the road at Buffalo in January.
