Final Stats
ADRIAN, Mich. - Junior forward Jessica Grubbs did
the scoring and the Adrian defense and goaltending did the rest on
Saturday afternoon as the women's hockey team won 1-0 over
Concordia (Wis.) and punched their ticket to the NCHA O'Brien Cup
semifinals. Grubbs notched her 14th goal of the season at 18:59 of
the second period at even strength with assists from Olivia Rork and Dana
Funkenhauser. Grubbs took a rebound off a shot by Rork and from
her knees put the puck past Concordia goaltender Lea Jondal.
Adrian cemented the victory with a solid third period in which
they put pressure on the Falcon defense. Adrian had a 13-9 edge in
shots on goal in the final period and owned a 35-18 advantage for
the contest. Senior Dana Timm was once
again spectacular in goal for the Bulldogs earning her fourth
shutout of the season and the 13th of her career. Timm made 18
saves with half of those coming in the final 20 minutes.
The Falcons went to an empty net with 48 seconds to go but could
not score against a determined Bulldog squad. Adrian finished the
regular season in second place in the NCHA and will now await their
opponent in the semifinals. At press time, Adrian was the first
team to advance to the semifinals.
