Adrian Penalized Heavily in 4-2 Loss at Buffalo State

BUFFALO, N.Y. - The women's ice hockey squad saw their two-game winning streak snapped on Friday night at the hands of Buffalo State by the final of 4-2 as BSC scored two third-period power play goals. The Bulldogs were called for 11 of their 13 penalties in the second and third period with Adrian spending six times more in the box in the third than the home team. Buffalo State finished the game 2-of-12 on the power play as the Bulldogs stayed in the game with solid penalty killing units.

Keegan Castrillo got Adrian on the board on the power play for her seventh goal of the year with an assist from Jodi Myers and Jessica Grubbs at 5:42. Buffalo State evened things up at 7:14 as Julie Ruszala scored an even-strength goal with an assist from Kristin Bozek and Alex Papineau.

BSC went up 2-1 at 2:25 of the second period as Mary Cohen scored her first goal of the year with an assist from Tonya Ford. The Bulldogs evened the score at 3:29 as Ainsley Coon tallied her third goal with an assist from Ashley Aiken and Nicky Futers. Marissa McMullan scored the game-winning goal at 6:47 on the power play with a helper from Casey Bull and Jackie Blanchard. Ruszala's second goal of the game at 4:42 of the third period gave Buffalo State a two-goal cushion.

Ashley Kavanagh took the loss in goal falling to 4-2 as she allowed three goals while making eight saves. Dana Timm played the final 31:38 of the game and made 12 saves. Both teams tallied 24 shots on goal as Adrian is now 9-4 overall while Buffalo State moved up to 3-5-2 overall. These two teams will face-off tomorrow at 4:00 p.m. to conclude their weekend series.
