Bulldogs Squander 11-Point Halftime Lead in 65-57 Loss at Olivet

OLIVET, Mich. - It was a heartbreaker for the Adrian College women's basketball team who saw a double-digit lead slip away on the road at Olivet College on Saturday. The Bulldogs really played sound basketball in the first half shooting 46.9 percent and seemed to pick up where they left off after a resounding win over Tri-State a couple of days ago. The adjustments were made in the locker room and Adrian seemed to have a cover on their hoop in the second half making just three field goals in 26 tries for a paltry 11.5 percent in the final 20 minutes.

Olivet warmed up in the second half especially at the free throw line. The Comets were 3-of-4 at the line in the first half but ventured to the stripe 18 times making 15 for 83.3 percent in the second half. Olivet shot 81.8 percent (18-of-22) at the line for the game. Adrian also shot it well for the line well above their season average. The Bulldogs were 16-of-20 (.800) and attempted just one free throw in the first half.

Both teams could not take care of the ball with a combined 51 turnovers and 40 points off those miscues. Adrian led 17-9 midway through the first half and built their to 12 points with 2:59 left in the opening half. Eight different Bulldogs scored in the first half to lead their offensive attack. Olivet used a 12-3 run in the first 6:13 of the second half to tie the game at 36-36. Olivet pushed their lead to 48-41 at the 9:02 mark on a layup by Ameina Ross. Adrian then went on an 8-0 run to regain the lead 49-48 with 7:41 to play.

The second half saw the score tied seven times with the last one coming at 52-52 with 5:41 remaining. Olivet closed the game on a 13-5 run handing the Bulldogs their second conference defeat. Adrian missed their final nine field goal tries to end the game. Ashley McClarren led Adrian with 13 points and seven boards in 30 minutes. Nichole Roose chipped in nine points and was 3-of-4 from the arc with two assists and two steals. Jennifer Perrin tossed in eight points while dishing out three assists and recording four steals in 35 minutes.
